- Films and Publications Amendment Bill into law.
- Date
- Feb. 24, 2018, 9:43 p.m.
We need your help to urgently send the following message (two points) to your MP's and/or political party:
The definition of prohibited “obscene material”, called the “XX” classification in the Films and Publications Act of 1996, must not be watered down, as this will result in making more vile types of pornography and degrading material legally distributable in South Africa, and
The online distribution of hard-core pornography, called “X18” material in the Act, must not be legalized, especially not without a credible and official investigation into the impact of pornography on South African society.
There exists well documented evidence of the extensive physical, psychological and social harms of pornography, which should first be given proper consideration, before a decision can be taken about wide-spread dissemination of hard-core pornography in South Africa through the internet.
Please prevent the amendment to be accepted into law.
