Dear Mr. GROENEWALD. I HAVE A SON HIS 40 YEARS OLD. I got him arrested for violating a protection order. He was arrested. when he first appeared in court they asked me if I want to oppose bail I said yes as I didn't understand the word opposed bail. I told them that he can't get bail unless he gets a place to stay by and than I will let him be released. The prosecutor asked the investigating officer to find the place where he was going to stay but the investigating officer didn't do that. When the case was brought up the second time the investigating officer said that I must meet him at the court with the lady that he will be staying by. When we got to the court the I/O told the prosecutor that he wants to write the statement down from the lady that he will be living at. The prosecutor shouted at the I/O and told him that he was supposed to do this 2 weeks ago and she threw the file and said now his bail will be with held and the case will come up on the 18 July. I went to the police station and spoke to the commander so she referred us to the I/Os supervisor and he promised that he will send the i/O to us tomorrow morning for the statements he came 2 days later. I decided to withdraw the case against my son. The I/O took the file to the prosecutor and she said she can't withdraw the case. When we saw his condition he was in a terrible state very sick and could hardly walk or talk or even eat. I pleaded with the head prosecutor to withdraw the case and she was very rude to me. I am 70 years old had a heart attach 3 weeks ago and I explained that to her she said to me lady don't irritate me early in the morning and I can't withdraw the case because you wants us to do so. the judge will decide. When he appeared in front of the judge he was wearing kimbies that's the state he was in. The judge said we have to wait for the first judge that refused the bail as she can decide what to do. They remanded the case twice as the prisoner did not appear. No reason. Was given to me by the prosecutor as to why he didn't appear. A few days later one of my family members saw him at Baragwanath hospital in a bad condition when I asked the I/O for info he was very rude to me and told ne if I have any questions I must ask the prosecutor. I appeared today again he didn't appear I waited at the court the whole day just to hear he isn't there again also without a reason I wa told to come back on the 8 August. I would like to know are they not allowed to inform family members of a prisoners condition. We are worried sick as we don't know what is really happening as he was very sick as other prisoners told us so. What if something bad happened to him we are muslims and if he might pass away we need his body to bury it with a certain time. I need urgent assistance with the lenasia court. I do not have money I'm a pensioner sickly as well, and to run around like this is disgusting for an old person to go throght all this. I have no money to bribe people as I have no income besides my pension I have to Pay were I rent and buy some food that's all I can afford. I don't even have money for bail as they promised me 2 weeks ago they giving me a legal aid lawyer when I get there there you hear nothing about it. You can't even speak to the prosecutors they so rude to elderly people. I don't even have money for transport I hike to lenasia to get to the court everytime just to be turned away. I have to sit the whole day hungry and thirsty because you can't even take food in as the securities also want money to let you in with food. If yiu have no money you nothing. The rich get away with murder but petty criminals get harsh punishment. The code of conduct of prosecutors doesent allow them to be rude to elderly people. They have no humanity. As according to the human rights commission it's mentioned that they should take into consideration people feelings.
