i'm a first year student at the university of the Free-State. Sir as you know the fee-free higher education was introduced last year December by our former corrupt president for all who qualified for it which was a motion they should have done long time ago after democracy as they have been contradicting themselves because they wrote in their 1955 freedom charter that Education must be free for all learning areas and all individuals. Dr right now we as students are in crisis and wondering what's going on. How is this free education implemented if we are still squatting, sleeping illegal at our friends communes whom are also under NSFAS and are still paying their 2000R rent since January? Both my parents are not working and i already supplied NSFAS with four affidavits as I was asked how do we survive at home and how come i managed to qualify and come to the institution if both my parents are not working. I did that, my mother told them that she sells sweets & peanuts for a living as she does. I paid my rent for three montsh which is close to 2000R until my parents couldn't afford anymore I had to make a plan. I had to squat, which is illegal waiting for NSFAS to refund and give me my accommodation fees. I went and inquire at the institutions I was told about June and July, I mean how do they claim to be giving us free education if we have to Cover some of our costs. When you inquire they take you as if you are after the money, which rightfully belongs to us as we qualified to be here studying. Students are kicked out of communes, flats and nothing has been done so far, we were just told to be patient, If this is how this fee-free education will be implemented then why call it free because we pay for it's shelter. They must never tell us about procedures and how to follow them, which procedure takes six months for a student to be fully funded without having to worry, there's no free education here they can fool other countries not us the ones whom are studying. NSFAS received close to ten billion the past three or four weeks, not even a significant action was seen from they funding. We need clarity and ASAP, please help us
