Dear Minister Gordhan,
My name is Yukesh Maharaj age 51 & residing in KZN.
My contribution to the current loading shedding issues facing our country is a proposal that makes use of the current pool of resources that are available in KZN, following the recent shutdown of the Engen Petroleum and SAPREF refineries. From my 30 years of experience in working at these refineries & having played a part in providing diesel to the Ankerlig power station in the Western Cape, I believe that there is plenty of positives that can be gained by collaborating with these entities. If required, I am willing to arrange a meeting with the relevant people.
The Engen & SAPREF refineries have operations that are very similar to the power plants and have world class managers, engineers (chemical/mechanical/instrument and electrical) and operators with extensive competent skills together with best-in-class operations procedures and guidelines. The boilers and furnaces also relies on good quality of water supply to avoid boiler tube failures.
Another area that needs to be considered is the organizational design of these business units. I have put together a tentative plan that I am willing to share should your office wish to engage in this matter.
Yours sincerely.
Y R Maharaj
