I was very pleased to hear that young people in our small Eastern Cape town were being employed on SANRAL projects. Now I am very concerned to hear that though they are still receiving salaries, they have not worked for a few weeks and will only begin again in the New Year. This seems a wicked waste of taxpayers' money. It smacks of the very corruption that the government is purported to be fighting. It is also robbing young people of a sense of job satisfaction, learning and dignity. It is teaching them to expect something for nothing and inducting them into a corrupt system.
