Honorable Minister,
I would like to know why tertiary institutions continue to offer the above- mentioned course since it is not a requirement for aspiring school managers. Teachers who hold this qualification even at master's level have no advantage over colleagues who have a mere M+3 which is a 3 year diploma. Is the department sending a message that in order for one to a manager in education, one needs no special qualification in management, as long as they are qualified teachers? It is sad to note that in some of our schools, if not most, subordinates are more qualified than their superiors and immediate seniors. I suggest that this qualification be a MUST for aspiring managers or be made compulsory immediately after appointment into a managerial position. Otherwise, the course should be phased out as it would mean it holds no value to those who qualify in it.
