Dear Willie
For many years are we as a family and many other inhabitants of Stilbaai experiencing how people with permits arrive with a Mosselbay vehicle and strip the historical fish traps( vis vywers) . It happens over two days with every spring low tide.
It is extremely disappointing and shocking that people are issued with permits to strip the sea-life with crow bars.
How can we as public approach this matter to stop the issuing of permits that allow people to destroy everything in the a specific area.
I believe the permit allows one person to harvest 30 000 oysters.
These permit holders operate along the southern cape coast and destroy sea life in different areas.
It appears there is no control on the amount of oysters and other sea life that is stripped in these specific coastal areas.
Inspectors from the department of sea fisheries just check the permits, but not the quantity and the different sea life that are removed.
