Good Evening. I am a citizen in Durban currently living in Clare Estate. This is the story of a close friend of mine. Her mum (Ameena) nd her sister (Khatija) were wrongfully arrested on the night of the 18th of August. They were taken from their home without an arrest warrant and are currently at westville prison allegedly. We have not spoken to them for the past few days and we have no idea how thet are doing. They were arrested for protecting themselves from trespassers who attacked them first, in their own yard. The events were as follows:
On the 9th of August about 15 people mostly males entered their premises and attacked them. One of the women in the group took a stone and threw it on the pregnant Ameens' tummy and she in turn, took that same stone and threw it back at the lady who hit her with it. Unfortunately for the lady she got injured. To make the story short a physical altercation took place and afterwards the group of people left the victims yard. The victims (Khatija and Ameena), called the police. The police arrived more than 1 hour later when they are stationed less than 15 minutes away. This was the first indicator that they were not interested in helping the victims.
It was later discovered that they had gone to meet the assailants prior to meeting the actual victims who were attacked in their own home by violent criminals.
After a few visits to the police station, the victims were told that they cannot press charges for trespassing and were unassisted by the police.
On the 18th of August, the police called arrested Miss Khatija for injuring the lady with a stone, which she didn't do. Her mother went with her to the police station to explain it was not her daughter who threw the stone and that it was her. However, we do not know what transpired afterwards for all communications with them have been cut. We were informed that they had been moved to westville prison and that was it.

When they went to the police station to report the crime, they were unassisted and told that they could not press charges. But a few days later, the assailants somehow filed a complaint and Khatija was arrested.
Have I mentioned that the victims are black and the assailants are Indian?
No investigation was carried out, no case was opened against the assailants because the police REFUSED to assist the victims. And now the victims are arrested for acting in self defense.
