HONOURABLE MINISTER Dr. NALEDI PANDOR
CPUT MATTERS: SUBMISSION TO THE PARLIAMENTARY PORTFOLIO COMMITTEE ON HIGHER EDUCATION
Kindly accept our congratulations on your appointment as Minister of the South African Department of Higher Education & Training. As hardworking and devoted scholars in the educational field we not only wish you well your endeavours but also pledge our full support to enhancing and growing our higher education field.
The latter, unfortunately, and despite its many fine achievements over the last twenty years or so, is and remains consumed by an array of problems, setbacks, complaints, and often, human abuses, that fairly often, could and should have been avoided.
I, personally, am celebrating twenty years since my formal entry into the post-graduate higher education research field, and rather than bring you only the good and inspiring news relating thereto, I feel obliged to inform you of my recent, formal submission to the South African Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher Education.
The Submission can be sent, and offers some insight into institutional malpractices and human abuses that, in some form or another, have come to distinguish both student and staff life at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The Submission consists of Three Parts, and delves into
(a) a range of student and staff matters, concerns and complaints, and institutional responses thereto. Preliminary findings show that the end result, as in the case of CPUT, looks extremely bleak (which is also the statistical finding as generated by the Institution’s 2014 Culture Climate Survey. The Survey statistics overall predicts an impeding institutional meltdown, as reflected in exceedingly high entrophy levels. A n electronic copy of this statistical study can be made available, upon request.
(b) This part (II) presents the case of Mr Lance Hufkie, ex-student in CPUT’s Education Faculty. Kindly note that, in essence, Mr Hufkie received a duly authorised CPUT letter confirming/stipulating that he had met the requirements for the B.Ed. (FET) degree. Despite this, and after going from pillar to post. Mr Hufkie could thus far not graduate, which has brought not only frustration but a deep sense of sadness to the extended family. An appeal is hereby respectfully lodged with the Honourable Minister to kindly assist in resolving this needlessly outstanding matter.
(c) Part III offers some indication of the shameful abuses I, personally, have had to endure, for far too long. Kindly see my detailed explanation of the dire consequences abusive executive decision has wrought upon a dedicated and hardworking NRF-accredited scholar’s life and career. In this regard, the Submission (attached), warrants the attention also of the National Research Foundation. The NRF plays an absolute key role in our country’s scholarly development. An abuse of one of its devoted, accredited scientists, translates into an abuse and wastage of resources, efforts, accomplishments and even successes. In moral terms and as well as in terms of our hard-won human rights and constitutional principles, this is a vile affront on the human dignity of hardworking, dedicated university staff.
The assistance and support of the Honourable Minister in the work already underway by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee and the Yekiso Commission of Enquiry are hereby similarly and respectfully sought.
Last, the attention of the Honourable Minister in my particular matter, is hereby respectfully also called upon (See Pat III of the attached Submission)
Thank you for your time and I trust the urgency of the matters raised here are both clearly articulated (for further details or clarification, please do not hesitate to make contact) and deserving of executive attention.
Respectfully,
Dr Clive W. Kronenberg
