Dear Michael Cardo
You are writing the official biography of H F Oppenheimer. I recently completed a family history that has an interesting oral history of his father Sir Ernest of how he acquired the first gold mine in Johannesburg. Should you be interested I can send you the whole document or just the page on Sir Ernest.
It is a universal migration story that humanity can empathise, identify and relate with. In general, there is a tendency to categorise diasporas, ethnic groups, communities and social classes in broad terms. But history is a personal experience taking place within the context of a family and provides a unique perspective on diasporic Hellenic identity. The wonderful diversity and richness of the diaspora would be lost without the individual level.
Kind regards
Costa
