Dear Honourable Siviwe Gwarube,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to respectfully raise a concern that affects many newly qualified teachers across South Africa. While we appreciate the efforts made by the Department of Basic Education, there remains a significant challenge in securing employment after completing our qualifications.
The current database system, which is intended to assist in the placement of teachers, does not appear to be as efficient or responsive as it should be. Many qualified graduates remain on the database for extended periods without feedback or placement opportunities. As a result, a large number of capable and passionate young teachers are left unemployed, despite the evident need for educators in many schools.
The situation is becoming increasingly urgent. The youth of this country are eager to contribute positively to the education system, yet they are faced with limited opportunities and prolonged uncertainty. This not only affects individuals but also impacts the broader goal of improving the quality of education in our communities.
I kindly urge the Department to review and improve the efficiency of the teacher placement system, and to explore additional strategies that can create more employment opportunities for newly qualified teachers. This could include better transparency in the database process, faster response times, and increased support for schools to hire new educators.
Thank you for your time and consideration. I remain hopeful that meaningful steps can be taken to address this pressing issue.
Saze sahlupheka.
