Dear Honourable Minister,

I am writing to you as a concerned South African citizen and proud supporter of Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana. My concern is not about which players are selected for the national team, but rather about the constant negative remarks made by Head Coach Hugo Broos towards Kaizer Chiefs and its players.

The coach has repeatedly stated that Chiefs players lack “quality.” While every coach has the right to make selections based on his tactical vision, what is troubling is the frequency and tone of these comments. They come across as unnecessary attacks on a single club, and they risk fueling division among supporters instead of promoting unity under the national flag.

History gives us a good example of how this can be handled differently. When Vicente del Bosque coached Spain to win the FIFA World Cup in 2010, he had to manage a squad made up largely of fierce rivals from Barcelona and Real Madrid. Instead of making public remarks that could deepen those rivalries, Del Bosque took a diplomatic approach that fostered respect, professionalism, and unity. This is the kind of leadership we need in Bafana Bafana.

Our national team should be a symbol of unity and pride for all South Africans, not a platform where domestic club rivalries are amplified by the head coach. Therefore, I respectfully appeal to the Ministry to engage with SAFA on this matter, so that the coach can be reminded of the responsibility that comes with his role, to build bridges, not divisions.

We, as supporters, want to rally behind Bafana Bafana wholeheartedly. But this is difficult when certain clubs are consistently singled out for criticism. The Ministry’s intervention will help ensure that the national team remains a unifying force for all.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours faithfully,
[Tumelo Dihele]
