Glynnis Breytenbach,
When the new Minister of J & CD was interviewed on 567 three weeks ago, she admitted that there are serious backlogs ito court cases and the finalization of deceased estates. In terms of deceased estates, it is law-abiding citizens who are the victims - the Masters' Offices country-wide have been dragging their feet for the past 5 years, leaving widows and other family members to struggle and suffer, while they allow files to lie unattended to. In addition, when one makes an enquiry about a case, they do not provide the REASON for the hold-up.
Please put the spotlight on this serious matter, like the new Minister of Home Affairs has done. Just like it is the right of citizens to have an ID document, so it is their right to have the affairs of deceased family members to be "wound up" and finalized, The Dept of J & CD should not be allowed to trample on the rights of law-abiding citizens.
My sisters and sister -in- law are trapped in this situation, simply because the officials responsible are not being held to account for their non-delivery. Our brother passed away 3 years ago, and we have done everything asked of us.
Please draw the attention of the new Deputy Minister of J & CD to this serious situation
impacting on thousands of families country-wide.
