Good day Mr. Nel,

I am an Analytical Chemist and entrepreneur. I created a hair care brand centered around my research work on a plant called Moringa. I created my hair care brand Natural Aura with the purpose to provide safe products to men and women with afro textured hair and managed to get my products at Clicks online. I have furthered my advocacy work by being a World Afro Day team member and we are advocating to amend the Equality Act in the UK to end Afro Hair discrimination and even made it to parliament in December 2024 and January 2025.

The reason for my email is I'm writing to advocate for a legislative change that is long overdue in South Africa: the protection of Black men and women against discrimination based on their natural hair texture and protective hairstyles.

Despite our nation's progressive Constitution, many continue to face bias and punitive actions simply for embracing their natural hair. This is not a grooming issue- it is a matter of dignity, cultural identity and racial justice.

I do believe South Africa has the opportunity to lead on the African continent by enshrining protections into law that affirm the right to wear Afro-textured hair freely and proudly.

I am seeking community leaders and government officials to help shape and forward such an incredible movement and I do believe your assistance can help with this.
I am very open to having a conversation or collaboration on this initiative, I would deeply appreciate the opportunity to connect.

Thank you for your time and commitment.

Kind regards,
Dr. Charlene Makita
