Dear Honourable Msezane,

I write to you from the Pretoria North, to raise an issue that is an impediment to Pensioners in terms of accessing service’s like Passport’s and ID documents because of some who aren’t technologically savvy. The system of booking online is a bit cumbersome especially when one has to do a booking and access the nearest Home Affair’s office.

Let me tabulate these impediments:
1. It’s difficult to do a booking as the portal sometimes doesn’t take the signature
2. The system sends you to areas that are far from where one stays
3. When one does a walk-in they are requested to book first which means double transport fee to and fro
4. Lack of knowledge of using technology because of being born before technology
5. The requirement of changing the Green Book to the Card might require some Public Meetings in order to explain why it must be done
5. The requirement to pay Online is also cumbersome for Pensioners

I think as a Recommendation, that Pensioner’s should be allowed to do Walk Ins nearer to where they stay and be prioritised. This doesn’t only apply to ID’s but also Passport’s. Another mode of payment for Pensioner’s should also be deviced, online payment needs one to be technologically savvy.

I write to you to put forward these issues on the table in the Portfolio Committee so that Pensioner’s are met halfway by Government in order to make their lives easier especially those who’s children have left them home for greener pastures elsewhere.

I humbly request you, my honourable MP.
