KZN to start Senzo Meyiwa's youth soccer academy

The KZN provincial government has confirmed that they will approach the Meyiwa family for permission to name one of the soccer academies after their late son Senzo

Former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa will have a youth soccer academy named after him, according to KwaZulu Natal premier Senzo Mchunu.

Mchunu, who hailed Meyiwa's influence both as an individual and as a soccer player in the past 14 years of his career, said the provincial government will need permission from his family before naming the academy after Meyiwa.

"We will build a soccer academy and name it after Senzo. We want more Senzo Meyiwas to emerge from that academy," Mchunu addressed the mourners gathered at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Meyiwa left his hometown at an age of 13 to join Bucs development in 2000, and he was promoted to the senior team five years later.

He sadly lost his life last week Sunday, as he was starting to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the South African football.

A suspect, Zanokuhle Mbatha (25), has already been charged with the murder of Meyiwa, and he is set to appear in court again on November 11, 2014.
